Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings play an important part in providing comfort in our everyday surroundings so inevitably they are prone to spillage staining and wear and tear damage.

Upholstered furnishings are usually intended to form part of an interior decorative scheme and in many instances damage may have occurred to just one item which forms part of a matching set.

Farcroft’s skill in textile conservation and restoration has seen many pieces restored which would have been deemed to be beyond recovery. Using sensitive cleaning techniques, most stains can be removed including water marks, inks, paints, oils, grease, mould, soot, tobacco residue, body fluids, food and drink residues. Where more serious damage has occurred, Farcroft can carry out full re-upholstery and repairs.

From modern to traditional upholstery, Farcroft provides a complete restoration service ranging from repairs to fabrics, replacement fillings or complete re-upholstery.

Upholstery is intended to provide comfortable seating, but over time and with regular use, structural or pressure damage may have occurred.

Despite the importance of the outward appearance, the major elements of upholstery are largely unseen, yet these determine the form, stability and comfort. Each piece can be stripped down to the frame to inspect and rectify damage. This includes strengthening joints, repairing frames, re-springing and replacing fillings. With a vast range of high-quality fabrics and trimmings, clients have the option to choose either a matching or a replacement fabric.

As a natural material, leather is prone to damage. From scratch and scuff repairs to a complete re-upholstery, Farcroft restores most types of damage to leather furnishings.

Most scratches, scuffs, small cuts, tears and burns can be repaired invisibly using localised repair techniques

For larger cuts, tears and burns, we can replace just the panel affected and colour and finish it to blend with surrounding areas.

Whilst most types of leather are not easily stained, Farcroft can remove a wide range of stains and surface marks and restore the original sheen.

Where severe damage has occurred, Farcroft’s upholstery team provides a full re-upholstery service to replace fillings, foams, springs, webbings and recover in a wide range of leathers.

Years of expertise have led us to develop specialist techniques, enabling us to undertake many different types of restoration
