Due to the age of many of the military medals we encounter, our medal cleaning and restoration process always begins with a careful deep clean of the item to remove any contaminates and reveal the underlying condition of the metal, as well as its finish.
Where the metal is in good condition, we follow this cleaning and inspection process by polishing the medal to help maintain its lustre.
If cleaning exposes more damage than was evident on first inspection, we use our skills in metal restoration to restore the original appearance. Our extensive knowledge and experience in precious metal restoration enables us to restore all types of medals, including those made from gold, silver, bronze or lead.
As well as working on the medal itself, our precious metals experts can repair the metal structure that connects it to the ribbon, including the suspender and bars.
Our primary aim is always to restore the original parts where possible but, where this is not achievable – such as where a suspension rod or ring has broken – we can offer appropriate replica pieces to suit the age and appearance of the medal.
Where the pre-existing ribbon is damaged beyond repair, meaning its ability to hold the medal is severely compromised, we can also provide replacement ribbons to match the original.
