Wood Panelling

Wood is an incredibly versatile material renowned for its beauty and longevity when properly cared for. For these reasons, it has often been used to provide decorative structure to building interiors.

From wood panelling, decorative doors and antique window frames, to ornately-carved wooden fireplaces, these stunning, hand-finished features are part of the fabric of the buildings they adorn, making their restoration more challenging, but no less rewarding.

At Farcroft Restorations Group, we work wherever we need to in order to ensure a high-quality, sensitive restoration. Our skilled woodworkers are as accustomed to working on larger installations on site in clients’ properties as they are undertaking smaller-scale restoration projects back in the workshop.

As in all the work we do, our craftspeople draw on their extensive knowledge of materials and the working practices of the period to bring these often unique features back to life.

Restoring Wood Panelling

As with all wooden installations, wood panelling can be damaged or worn through day-to-day use of rooms and spaces.

The proximity of furniture, exposure or none-exposure to light, accidental damage and being leaned on by people can cause parts of the finish to fade or wear away.

In order to guard against permanent damage, our team acts to stabilise and then reverse the deterioration when these signs of age and use first begin to show.

Our wood panelling services include:

  • Polishing of wood panelling to revive its appearance, retaining the original patina and lustre wherever possible.

  • Temporary removal and subsequent reinstallation of original panelling to allow for the installation of electrics or other services in historic properties.

  • Creation of replica panelling to replace damaged areas, furnish extensions to rooms, or duplicate an existing installation in an additional room of a property. Where new sections will sit alongside original panelling, we can blend the two to create an invisible join and finish the new wood to match the existing.

Years of expertise have led us to develop specialist techniques, enabling us to undertake many different types of restoration
