In addition to watercolours, Farcroft also specialises in etching restoration and conservation –commonly known as graphic works on paper.
Treatments vary according to the cause and extent of damage. Weak, brittle and acidic mounting boards are one of the major causes of deterioration. Where the artwork has been mounted, we can remove aged or acidic mount boards which may have been glued or pasted to the artwork.
Surface dirt, general discolouration, and stains can be sensitively removed using dry methods or water based mild bleaching solutions.
If necessary, fragile or wrinkled paper can be pasted onto a light paper to provide additional structural support. Mending and retouching can be carried out to disguise tears or missing areas, using liquid paper pulp for infilling.
