Following a severe fire that left Ewell Court exposed to both flames and the elements, Farcroft was brought in to carry out a comprehensive restoration of the interior. The project called for expert handling of timber panelling, staircases, flooring, and doors — blending conservation with compliance and craftsmanship.
A fire had destroyed much of the roof, leaving the building vulnerable to water damage and accelerating the deterioration of its interior. With no protection from the elements, intricate timber panelling, staircases, floors, and doors suffered extensive damage. Many original elements were at risk of being lost entirely. Restoration would require the removal, documentation, conservation, and accurate reinstatement of every component — all within a sensitive heritage setting.

Farcroft implemented a detailed reference and labelling system to identify and catalogue each timber element before removal. Components were carefully disassembled and transported to our workshops, where they underwent full restoration. This included stripping existing finishes, neutralising surfaces, and hand-applying traditional coatings to prepare each item for reinstallation.
The timber panelling was restored section by section, then returned to site and installed in its exact original location. Once fixed in place, the entire surface was hand-polished to revive its natural lustre.
The flooring restoration included substrate preparation using specialist damp-proof membranes and a latex layer, followed by the installation of new parquet in the original herringbone pattern. After acclimatisation, the floor was finely sanded, stained, and finished with hard wax oil for a rich, even tone.
Fire-damaged doors were reconstructed in solid oak, replicating the original mouldings and finishes. Where possible, original brassware was salvaged from the old doors and reused to maintain historic continuity.

Farcroft successfully returned the interior of Ewell Court to its former splendour — combining heritage craftsmanship with modern standards. The polished timber panelling, restored staircases, bespoke oak doors, and revived parquet flooring together reflect the care, precision, and respect that define every Farcroft project. The result is a home that not only retains its historical character but now meets modern performance and safety expectations.
